Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe "Night Edition"

Mercedes ushered in the sixth-generation S-Class for the 2014 model year. Inspired by the F700 concept car, the S-Class came correct with a large front grille, LED lighting (inside and out,) loads of luxurious leather, and a decent list of driver assistance features. Not long after the S-Class Sedan went on sale, Mercedes ushered in the first S-Class Coupe since the 1990s and it was one of the best moves the brand has made in a while. Offered here in the U.S. with a 4.7-liter V-8 in entry-level form, a 5.5-liter V-8 in AMG S63 form, or a 6.0-liter V-12 in AMG S65 form, the S-Class Coupe can be had with anywhere between 449 horsepower and 621 ponies on tap and can hit a 60-mph sprint in as quick as 3.8 seconds when properly equipped. Now that BMW and Audi have updated the 7 Series and A8, respectively, Mercedes has been working on a facelift for the S-Class, but before that happens, it’s introducing a darker model to the S-Class lineup.

The model goes by the name “Night Edition” and will be based on the U.K.-market S500 Coupe (We have the S550 Coupe here in the U.S.) Mercedes says this went into effect on December 9th, 2016, which means it’s making its world premiere at the Detroit Auto Show. It comes with a number of dark enhancements that give it a somewhat menacing appearance while officially getting the S-Class Coupe onto the dark-themed bandwagon that every manufacturer has been jumping on lately. When the Detroit Auto Show kicks off, we’ll be sure to bring you a host of images and information on this special S-Class Coupe, but until then, let’s take a look at the few images we have and talk a little about it.
