Aston Martin AM-RB 001 Makes Global Debut In Toronto... Sort Of

It’s been less than a week since Aston Martin highlighted its technical partners and unveiled some drivetrain information for the AM-RB 001 project, and the hypercar has already made its global debut. Well, not exactly a proper debut since the vehicle isn’t yet ready to go into production, but Aston Martin did display a full-size model at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto.

The venue is a bit surprising given that Toronto isn’t not a major auto show, but it’s a global debut nonetheless. Also, there’s no word as to why Aston Martin chose Canada to display the hypercar for the first time, but it seems to be a full-time effort that also includes company CEO Andy Palmer.

"The Canadian International Auto Show marks the global auto show debut of our groundbreaking hypercar. The AM-RB 001 is destined to become the defining hypercar of this decade and a hugely desirable investment for collectors and enthusiasts," Palmer had to say about the event.

The debut comes with no additional information about the supercar, but we already know quite a few details. Last week, Aston Martin unveiled that the AM-RB 001 will use a naturally aspirated, 6.5-liter, V-12 developed by Cosworth. Additionally, it will have a lightweight tub made from carbon-fiber by Multimatic and a braking system created by Alcon and Surface Transforms. Bosch was also commissioned to develop a bespoke engine control unit, a traction control unit, and the electronic stability program. Finally, the supercar’s LED headlamps and taillights will be built by Wipac, which developed light units for the Porsche Carrera GT and the Lamborghini Aventador.

First deliveries of the AM-RB 001 aren’t due until 2019, so don’t expect the fully functional hypercar to be unveiled until late 2017 or early 2018.
