Ford has reworked the F-150 for the 2018, with the updated pickup getting its official debut at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show. The truck wears a new face and rear end, but the bodywork in between, along with the interior, remains unchanged. The F-150’s wide choice of powertrains is completely updated, however, with the wide adoption of the 10-speed automatic transmission. A slew of active safety systems are all now available, including adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.
The F-150 is Ford’s biggest seller and highest profit-maker, so it’s completely understandable why Ford pays it so much attention. The current F-150 debuted for the 2015 model year, so it’s not really old. In fact, it still remains the newest full-size, half-ton pickup in the segment – beating the Chevy Silverado by a year and the Ram 1500 by six.
Leading headlines is the F-150’s updated engines. The base 3.5-liter V-6 has been replaced with a new 3.3-liter V-6, the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 and 5.0-liter V-8 have been improved, and all but the base V-6 now come standard with the 10-speed automatic. The 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 carries over unchanged, though it received a huge update for the 2017 model year. Ford has yet to release any official details regarding the specific updates and power figures for the new engines, but it’s a sure bet to see more power and better fuel economy.
