Honda Civic Type R

Honda Civic fanboys, hold on! The Type R hot-hatch is finally coming to the U.S. in the summer of 2017! Yep, Honda’s latest four-cylinder sports car killer is new from the lugnuts up and wears some rad bodywork. Well, it’s mostly new. The 2.0-liter turbo-four with direct injection carries over, but you won’t care. It still makes 306 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, which it routes to the front wheels through a short-throw six-speed manual transmission. Needless to say, Honda’s hot-hatch recipe seems well baked.

The 2017 Civic Type R made its official debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show to an international crowd. The car’s boy-racer bodywork and red-hot paint color caught plenty of attention. It was even voted by TopSpeed staffers as a best-in-show contender. It’s no wonder considering how long us Americans have been pining for the Type R. The last decently fast Honda was the S2000, and that ended production in 2009.

Thankfully Honda is making the comeback worthwhile. The Civic Type R should compete very well against its biggest rivals, some of which include the Ford Focus RS, Volkswagen Golf R, and even the Subaru WRX STI. As such, the Type R’s pricing should fall within the mid-$30,000 range. Honda won’t release the exact amount until closer to the car’s summertime dealership debut as a 2018 model.

In the meantime, check out the full run-down of Honda’s new 2017 Civic Type R below.
